La primera vez que John y George tomaron LSD de manera delibeada, fue en una fiesta que daban en Los Angeles durante el verano del '65, La primera vez que habían tomado la droga, la experiencia finalizó con una persecución en coche por todo Londres durante la noche. El resultado final no fue especialmente gratificante. en esta ocasión se encontraban con el actor Peter Fonda (hermano de Jane) y dado que éste tenía más experiencia que los dos Beatles en "viajar", intentó guiarlos. Cuando George le dijo al actor que se moría, el actor le dijo que cuando tenía 10 años se había disparado accidentalmente en el estómago a si mismo, y que su corazón se paró tres veces. "I know what is like to be dead" (sé como es estar muerto) a lo que John respondió "You're making me feel like I've never been borned. Who put all that shit in your head?" (me estás haciendo sentir como si no hubiera nacido nunca. ¿Quién te ha metido toda esa mierda en la cabeza?) Aunque la primera versión de la canción era bastante agresiva, John la suavizó al final refiriendose a una mujer y cambiando algunas frases.

"No quiero olvidar el miedo al litio". Una de las varias canciones que canto ademas que canto en un regitro más bajo. Escribí el estribillo en la guitarra cuando tenía unos 16. Siempre pensé que era un estribillo guay, pero nunca lo usé para nada. Empecé a tocarla con el piano y los versos salieron solos. Tengo un montón de trozos escondidas en mi mente que a lo mejor usaré algún día. De alguna manera es una canción vieja, pero en realidad no. Maduró.

La gente necesita ilusiones". Un grito, un quejido agónico apoyado por palabras. Una narración en primera persona de un colapso nervioso, o una actualización de la descripción Marxista de la religión como "Opio de las masas". Una oda (tipo de poesía) para desconectar. Si eres tan paranoico como yo, la letra de esta canción será como un himno para ti. Todos debemos creer en algo y es fácil creer en alguna religión cuando no hay nada más en lo que creer.

Would fue escrita por Layne Stanley (el vocalista d Alice) y a dedicada a Andrew Wood, q era el cantante de Mother Love Bone. Los dos cayeron en la heroína la mayor parte d sus vidas (y de hecho murieron intoxicados). 

La canción trata sobre cómo la heroína le afectó la vida a Layne, y sus sentimientos cuando estaba en rehabilitación; y cómo desea Layne que Andrew Wood también pueda salir d esa adicción. 

Por ejemplo en el verso q dice "into the flood again.."(en la inundación otra vez..) esta parte se refiere a que volvió a caer en la adicción, en el "viejo viaje" que le provocaba la heroína; luego dice que cometió un grave error, y espera que Andrew lo entienda. 

También cuando dice "have i gone? i left you here alone" significa q Layne siente q lo ha dejado solo en la adicción, pero al final remata con "if i would, could you?" que vendría a ser como "si yo saliera de esto, tu también lo harías?", como una suerte de incentivación.

Mercury se negó a explicar su composición, diciendo sólo que trataba sobre relaciones. Pese a todo, Queen no reveló nunca el verdadero significado de la canción.6 Tras el lanzamiento del sencillo, el cantante dijo:

Con esta canción la canta autora Adele muestra que ya no habrá nada más para él. El punto esta definido por el significado de turning tables que hace referencia a los comedores chinos donde las personas pueden pedir varios platos y como son mesas giratorias, todos los comensales puedes tener acceso a los platos. Con esto ella muestra como él lo tenía todo con ella pero ya no va a permitir que él se aproveche de esto. Es tiempo de decirle adiós a estas “turning tables” donde además de tenerlo todo nunca te defines por algo. Y por eso ella no va a dejar hacerse más daño.
